Writing my how-to guide “Groom Your Own Dog Like A Groomer”, a DIY guide to dog grooming, was inspired by all the loving pet owners I’ve met over the years who have wanted to better love their pet by learning how to help take better care of them.  It was also inspired by all the pet owners who unknowingly have caused their pet great distress and harm by not taking the time to do even just a little maintenance at home. I am not trying to make you into a professional pet groomer, just an educated owner who is capable of handling basic grooming at home and feeling good about it.  My guide will also educate you about the tools of the pet grooming trade, how and when to use those tools, and to communicate with groomers effectively when and if you do go into a grooming shop. Hopefully you will find some information you can use, learn something new, and gain an overall new respect for your pet's needs, and for the grooming profession.  So, have no fear my friend, you can groom your own pet because you already have the basic ingredients needed to be a groomer: a love for your pet and a desire to provide for their needs beyond just food and shelter. The only things missing are experience and know-how. And so, the journey begins.
